Our History
Hudson Jewelers long esteemed history began in 1897 in St. Marys, Ohio by, W.T. Hudson, a young gentleman who, after completing his apprenticeship in Sidney, Ohio, hung out his pocket watch sign and began to repair watches and clocks.
Following World War I,W.T. Hudson’s son, Elra Hudson, followed in his footsteps also asa watch and clockmaker and would take over the business including jewelry repair and sales to the business.
In 1956, Erla’s youngest son, Richard, after graduating from Elgin watchmakers school and working in the US Army as a watchmaker, joined his father in the business.
In 1965, Richard purchased a building at 126 W. Spring Street in St. Marys where Hudson Jewelers calls home to this day.
In 1998, Richard’s son-in-law, Erik Mauter, joined him in the business and graduated from Druhard BenchJeweler’s Training as a Goldsmith and the two worked together running the business until Richard’s retirement in 2014.
In 2014, Richard’s youngest daughter, Nancy Hudson-Mauter joined Erik in the running of the business, and became the 4th generation owner of Hudson Jewelers, Inc.
Through the passage of time and four generations, Hudson Jewelers,has remained an institution on the business landscape of the St. Marys Downtown Shopping District.Currently owned and operated by Erik Mauter and Nancy Hudson-Mauter, Hudson Jewelers greets her customers with a welcome atmosphere and a passion for jewelry. Erik is a trained goldsmith and holds an Applied Jewelry Professional Certificate from the Gemological Institute of America. Nancy holds an Applied Jewelry Professional Certificate as well as a Graduate Diamond Certificate from the Gemological Institute of America.
